5 ways to continue the kōrero from Mental Health Awareness Week 2022

This year’s MHAW around the theme of reconnect sparked some incredible conversations – let’s keep them going.

We loved hosting daily live chats throughout Mental Health Awareness Week 2022. Each kōrero inspired us to reconnect with ourselves, our loved ones, our communities, and even the places we love the most.

Our special guests shared so many powerful ‘aha’ moments that had us hanging out for more. Thank you to Jase Te Patu, Josh Reid Jones, Shantelle Thompson, and Patrick Gower for being so open and sharing what you value most about reconnecting. We feel like the conversation around reconnecting is only just getting started!

If you also enjoyed the raw, vulnerable discussions from Mental Health Awareness Week, here are five ways to keep the kōrero going.

1. Watch the recordings

There were so many powerful conversations happening throughout Aotearoa last week, it would have been impossible to catch them all in real-time! We recorded all of our sessions for anyone who missed them or would like to re-watch them. Share your favourite speaker or key takeaway with someone to continue the conversation.

2. Revisit the daily challenges

Did you catch our daily challenges on social media? Every day, we shared a challenge to help you reconnect. You can revisit the challenges right here – we suggest bookmarking this page and coming back to it every few months to keep the spirit of reconnection front-of-mind.

3. Follow mental health advocates on social media

If you loved the energy and wisdom our guests brought to our webinars, you’ll love following them on social media. Here are some quick links:

We also suggest following the Mental Health Foundation who do awesome mahi for mental health all year round.

4. Schedule time to reconnect

Have you popped some reconnect time in your calendar yet? With yourself and with people you care about? If you’ve been meaning to make reconnection a priority, consider this a gentle reminder to make it happen. Even scheduling half an hour each day or week, can go a long way for your wellbeing.

Here are some ideas to help you prioritise reconnection:

  • Set aside 30 minutes to write down your values (reconnect with self)

  • Book a coffee date with someone you haven’t seen in a while (reconnect with others)

  • Sign up for a local community event or donate to a local charity (reconnect with community)

Check out the Mental Health Awareness Week website for more ideas and resources.
