Mentemia 101: Our mental wellbeing ecosystem

Discover the rich resources, handy tools and much more by Mentemia.

There’s a lot to explore in the Mentemia app and our ecosystem of all things mental wellbeing ⏤ expert-backed tools, video content, interviews on our podcast, and much more.

And we’re constantly expanding our selection, from new articles and videos in the app, to new Courses and Collections, and adding new tools to your wellness toolbox.

Here’s a quick look at some of the things you’ll find in the app and our ecosystem.

Expert thinking behind Mentemia

Our expert team have developed a strategy backed in science, research and psychology called the 6 Pillars of Mental Wellbeing. These pillars are the foundation of everything we do in the app.

Research shows if you do something from each of these six pillars every day, it will help you feel good, function well, and bounce back from stress. The pillars are:

  • Chill

  • Do

  • Connect

  • Move

  • Celebrate

  • Enjoy

Personalised for you

Everyone is different. We all have unique needs and interests when it comes to mental wellbeing. What works for you, your workmate, partner or friend might be quite different.

That’s why the Mentemia app is personalised to each individual, adapting to your personality and specific mental wellbeing needs.

Here’s how this is done in the app:

  • Intents. Set your wellbeing intents in the app (for example sleep or stress) to personalise the content and tools you’re recommended. Changed your mind? No worries, you can adjust your intents quickly and easily in the app

  • Personality quizzes. Take our in-depth personality quizzes so we can get to know you a little better, and personalise your mental wellbeing plan

  • Feedback. While using the app, you can give us the thumbs up or thumbs down on certain features. The more feedback we get, the more optimised your experience will be

Tracking and measuring your progress

It’s completely human to experience a full range of emotions with ups and downs. But we’re not always aware why we’re feeling certain ways.

The Mood Tracker is designed to help you track changes in your mood from day to day, and help you see patterns, notice triggers and reflect on opportunities for change

Understanding why you feel good can help you prioritise those things, like exercise or catching up with friends. Understanding why you feel not-so-good can help you take notice, and maybe take action to make some changes.

You can also track your progress in the app through the dashboard. This shows you things like your Mentemia streak (the number of days in a row you have used the app).

Daily motivations to remind you to take care of you

Life is busy and it can be easy to get caught up in commitments and life admin, and forget to look after yourself.

That’s why we created Daily Motivations ⏤ a little notification on your phone from JK or Mentemia to boost your mood, remind you to look after you, or try something new.

You can choose when you receive your Daily Motivations - Morning, Afternoon, or Evening, and change your settings at any time! Just to go Me > Account > Motivation.

The mental wellbeing toolbox in your pocket

There are a number of tools in Mentemia that you can use anywhere, anytime. Each tool has been developed based on scientific research and evidence and with guidance from our team of clinical and health psychology experts.

Here’s a quick list of the tools, read on to find out more about each one:

Worry Map

Let go of worries with the Worry Map. This tool is great for working through worries in a few simple steps.

It guides you through making a list of what you can and can’t control for the worry, and then making an action plan for the worry. Once you have a plan, it’s easier to let go.

Breath Training

Feel the calmness wash over you. Breath training is a simple way to help build resilience, reduce stress, and relax your mind and body. And you can practice your breathing whenever suits, whether that’s in the car or before bed.

It’s a great tool to call upon in times of high stress as well to help calm your brain. The impact of breathing can be very powerful. It’s how JK started to control his anxiety.

There are three types of breath training to try in the app: Belly breathing, Square breathing and Relaxed breathing.

Find out more about those breathing techniques and some of the science of breathing here.

Wheel of Kindness

Spin the Wheel of Kindness to generate a random act of kindness and complete a positive action. Being kind to someone helps them and can help you as well by boosting happiness.

Research shows that when we’re kind, our brains release oxytocin and serotonin ⏤ your happy hormones. Completing acts of kindness can also improve self-esteem, increase energy levels, reduce stress, and strengthen social bonds.

Soundscape mixer

Get creative with sound and remix your day with the Soundscape Mixer. This tool can help you relax, focus, and sleep better by letting you create your ideal soundscape mix.

Because everyone is different, this tool allows you to explore 4 unique soundscapes (Sleep, Less Stress, Relax, and Connect with Nature) and combine relaxing ambient and nature sounds.

It’s really simple to use and a great way to escape to nature for those times you can’t get away from your desk!
